– Hanahan –
Nestled along the Cooper River just atop the eastern portion of North Charleston, the village of Hanahan prides itself as a peaceful bedroom community. Its residents are from all walks, often serving the public service district in town, the nearby Charleston Air Force Base, or a number of industries in North Charleston.
The mid-century homes of Old Hanahan create a small town aura around its quaint and revitalizing business district.
Several enclaves of newer residential developments have blossomed along the wetlands of Turkey Creek and Tanner Plantation – an attractive option for families looking for both affordability, central location, desirable schools, and many nearby services.

Why We Love It Here
Spend an afternoon on Shem Creek. The freshest seafood bites, watching the boaters and kayakers stroll up to the docks at Red’s Ice House. A view of sunset over the marshes so exquisite that the outdoor patios at Vickery’s and Saltwater Cowboys are designed for it.
A weekend of boating in and out of Charleston Harbor Marina, with fresh cocktails on the dock and a panoramic view from the Cooper River of Historic Charleston and the Ravenel Bridge. A spring day is perfect for an 18-hole round at Patriots Point, the River Club at Dunes West, or a number of other outstanding golf courses.
Summertime means beach weather, and from Mount Pleasant the sandy stations of Sullivan’s Island are a bicycle ride from the Old Village – while the endless stretches of dunes at Isle of Palms are a causeway away.
While weekends East of the Cooper are the stuff of family photo albums, the routine is made extraordinary as well – world-class shopping experiences at Towne Centre, bakeries, sandwich shops, and Whole Foods, and my favorite little garden center at Abide A While.
